Jr. Bucs take 2nd
|
The Des Moines Jr. Bucs had another great showing this weekend finishing
2nd in the Des Moines Spring Breakaway tournament. They played three games
on their way to the championship game beating the Midwest League champion
Kansas City Stars, as well as the Kansas City Saints, and the Omaha Mavricks.
The championship game was one to remember. The Des Moines Oak leafs jumped out
to an early 2-0 lead. But with hard work and determination the Jr. Bucs came
back to tie the game in the second period. The Bucs kept applying the pressure
but the Oak leafs kept the puck out of the net and the game went to over time.
In the overtime period the Bucs picked up where the they left off in the third
period and kept shooting and pressuring the Oak leafs. With a minute left in
the overtime the Oak leafs took a penalty. The Bucs turned up the pressure
but the leafs were successful in keeping the puck out of the net and
forcing the game to a shootout.
In the shootout the Leafs were able to just nudge out the Bucs to win the
tournament.
It was a hard fought game and all of the coaches and parents are very proud of
how the players played and their effort. Congratulations Bucs on a great season.

Note: The Jr. Bucs placed 3rd or higher in every tournament they
played in this season.
